blogging worth it in 2022

Is Blogging Still Worth It In 2022?

It’ll be of no surprise to you that video content has absolutely skyrocketed over the last few years.

However, I can categorically tell you that blogging is still worth it and profitable in 2022 and will continue to be in future years.

There are more opportunities than ever to make money online and it’s easier than ever to start a profitable blog if you go about it in the right way.

Make no mistake, this isn’t a small undertaking and you should only continue on your journey if you’re prepared to put the time and effort in that’s required.

What is your blogging goal?

what's your blogging goal
Really think about why it is you want to start a blog. It’ll be important in helping stay focused in the months to come.

Let’s take a closer look at what your personal blogging goal is to determine whether or not it’s still worth starting a brand new blog in 2022

Have a look at the list below and see where you fit. This should give you a greater idea of whether you should spend your time on this or another hustle.

1. Passion blogging

blogging for passion
If blogging isn’t your passion to begin with, you’ll set yourself up to fail.

If it’s blogging purely out of passion, then it will always be worth it to start a blog no matter what year it is.

In fact, if you’ve been blogging out of a passion for a few years before you decide to turn your website into a business (or cash printing machine!) then you’ve already got many of the fundamentals it takes to run a successful blog that generates income.

You’ve got the writing skills, you’ve got the community, now you just need to monetize!

2. Blogging to create a community

create an online community
Creating an online community solely with blogging is hard but doable.

If it’s blogging purely to create an audience, it’s going to be tough but again it’s still very much worth it.

I would argue the quickest way to create a loyal audience for your online content would be to start a YouTube channel.

Of course, that’s not what this section of the website is about but it’s worth considering the fact that blogging is almost definitely not the quickest way to build an audience.

Given time, however, you will be able to build an audience that loves to digest all your content several times over.

But the landscape of blogging has changed so you cannot just write about anything you like and expect to have fans flock to your site.

Sadly, those days are long gone!

3. Blogging for side income

Your first $1 will be the best feeling on your blogging journey!

Blogging for a side income is one of the main reasons people decide to start in the first place.

Whether you’re looking for an extra $50 a month or an extra $500, monetizing your blog in 2022 is easier now than it’s ever been before.

I’ll discuss this a little further down in the post and at length in other articles, but just realize that there are a ridiculous amount of ways to make money from your blog.

Whilst this shouldn’t be your main reason for starting a blog in 2022 (in most cases), it’s absolutely achievable to think you’ll have made at least some money before the year is over.

Your only job is to make the helpful and informative content that people are trying to find. After that, we’ll think about making money!

4. Blogging for a full time income

Even if you’re blogging for a full-time income you may not end up here. But you CAN work anywhere with a laptop, not a 9-5 😉

This is the ultimate dream for a lot of us and let me tell you that it’s 100% worth it.

I’m going to be honest with you, I can probably count on half of one hand how many people have made full-time incomes from their blog within one year.

That’s not to say you shouldn’t aim high, but be realistic.

New blogs take time to rank, you’ll take time to learn what works and what doesn’t, and you may not have the time to dedicate during your first year.

Keep releasing those informative posts, provide quality and helpful articles to your audience, and you’ll probably end up making a lot more money than you first thought possible.

When I started my first blog, I loved the topic I was writing about so much that I pumped out almost a single blog post every other day.

Granted, not all of those were too great, especially in the early days. But by making mistakes, producing regular content, and learning about my niche, I went from a tiny nothing blog to becoming an authority on the subject.

Notice a theme with all these points?

Blogging is pretty much worth it in every situation as long as you know it’s a long game and that it’s definitely not an easy way to make money.

Not easy, but worth it a million times over! (If you’re as passionate as I am!)

Why blogging is easier than ever in 2022

You might feel like you’re fighting a losing battle when you realize that in Q1 of 2021 there were over five million WordPress blog posts published every day.

Despite that ‘alarming’ statistic, I’m convinced that if you’re blogging for the right reasons that it’s potentially easier than ever to build a successful blog in 2022

Here are my reasons:

1. Google updates and A.I

google ai and updates
All hail our savior, Google!

Google periodically updates its algorithm which can have some pretty major effects on post rankings.

This happens a couple of times a year (more or less), and is often a big concern to a lot of website owners.

However, I think they’re pretty darn great.

Whilst there is a possibility that some of my posts will lose rankings, I know that my work is thorough, informative, and the best out there for any given keyword.

This means that whilst a lot of rubbish that’s ranking high will fall in position, it’ll leave the way clear for me to snap those snippets and claim my spot at number 1.

2. People stay in more and watch more

blogging is easier than ever in 2022
Stop watching TV and start creating content!

If you haven’t figured it out yet, since the beginning of 2020 people are spending far more time indoors and on digital devices than they were before.

Ofcom, the communications regulator in the UK reported that people are now spending more than a quarter of their waking day online.

That’s potentially bad for them, but great for us and the future of blogging!

The more people spend time online, the more they crave information, the more they crave information, the more time they spend online.

So I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, create a treasure chest of information about your chosen niche and people will start spending time in your corner of the internet.

3. People buy more online

start a blog in 2022
It’s becoming easier and easier to click ‘Buy’ in 2022.

That big global event that happened (That won’t be named because my ad rates will likely plummet) has also had a huge impact on people’s buying habits.

Exponentially growing every year, china’s online shopping habits make 57% of all purchases nationwide.

Just let that sink in for a while…

With a similar, yet slightly slower trend happening all across the globe, it’s clear to see that it’s absolutely worth starting a blog or any online business in 2022 to benefit from the shift.

The best ways to easily make money from your blog in 2022

So if it is worth it to start your blog as a beginner in 2022, how will you end up making money from it?

It’s not something you entirely need to worry about near the beginning of your blogging journey, but I understand it’s a frequently asked question so it’s something I’m going to answer.

1. Sign up to a premium ad-network

Before you think about launching your blog on day one and then slapping on some Adsense adverts on day two… Don’t.

Not only will this increase your loading time (which google hates), but it will also be a massive turn off for the 1 or 2 viewers you might get which will inevitably lead them to bounce.

And the quicker they click off your page, the less you’ll get or the less likely they are to click on an advert.

When you have a few thousand views a month, (2-3 should be enough) you can consider signing up to Ezoic.

Ezoic is a premium ad exchange that technically can be joined when you have no views, but it’s honestly not worth the hassle or potential downsides when you have so little.

Another great thing about Ezoic is that you don’t have to wait for people to click on your adverts to get paid.

Ezoic operates with an EPMV which stands for Earnings per mīlle views (mīlle meaning 1000)

So you’ll be paid a certain amount depending on how many people view your site, how long they stay, and your content niche.

Oh, and you can expect at least double you would with Adsense.

We’ll talk about this more in a later post, but take a look here if you’re interested in learning more about the best ad exchange for beginners

2. Invest in video content

invest in video content for your blog
Video content is a must-have for your blog in 2022

Video is set to be huge in 2022 and beyond, so it makes sense to start preparing for that as soon as possible.

Following on from the point about Ezoic, they actually let you upload any amount of relative videos (That are in your copyright) so they can display video ads in the appropriate place on your blog.

This will have an enormous effect on your blog EPMV and is more likely than not going to help keep visitors on your site for longer.

3. Start with affiliates

beginner blog affiliate
Affiliates are the easiest way to make an income from your blog when it’s small

Affiliate offers are probably the best way to make money on your site when you don’t have that much traffic.

I must stress that building a backlog of quality content is going to be a far better use of your time than setting up an intricate affiliate linking system on your website.

Still, places like Amazon offer a pretty low bar of entry to the affiliate world until you pull in a bit more traffic and can apply to some of the premium offers.

Be warned, you only have 3 months in which to make 3 sales otherwise your account will be closed.

Of course, you can just re-apply again, but it’s a pain in the backside to keep doing that. Take it from someone who has re-applied many times!

Conclusion

Whilst the landscape of bogging has undoubtedly changed drastically over the last few years, it’s clear the opportunities to build a successful, profitable blog and make an income online are still very much there.

By following a few simple guidelines and focusing on creating a LOT of content, having a bit of patience, and keeping motivated, there is no reason why you cannot create a thriving blog.
